Situated on the Rio Patuca, the town of Ahuas is one of the 6 major municipalities in Mosquitia. It has a population of around 3000 people and is the major commerce point for the Patuca river. Located in Ahuas is the Clinica Evangelistica Morava or Moravian Mission Hospital. It is run by Dr. Gerard Rudy and his wife Norvelle, both of whom are physicians. The hospital provides the only medical care for the entire watershed, some 40,000 people and has a unstaffed dental clinic. The dental clinic is the only one on the Patuca river and remains empty 51 weeks each year. We feel that God is leading us to staff the dental clinic on a more regular basis.
